Mission Statement

Psychologists for Social Change Scotland

Mission Statement

We are at same time a virtual hub and physical network of psychologists across Scotland. Broadly speaking, we aim to facilitate the use of psychological knowledge in the service of progressive social change. We aim to do this both through publicising, in a transparent manner, research evidence that advocates for social justice and equality, by actively working with organisations that drive towards social justice. In this way, we aim not simply to (re)produce knowledge, but to actively intervene to effect social change.

We will do this through:

1) A strong virtual presence online, and in social media, that makes any relevant psychological knowledge accessible to practitioners and organisations, and which facilitates knowledge exchange through collaborative research.

2)  A bank of speakers willing to address community organisations, to speak to the media and to agitate for social change in line with our values within this role.

3) The involvement of students of Psychology at all levels of their degree(s) in knowledge exchange activity.

4) Advocacy for the transformation of the Psychology curriculum at all levels to reflect Psychology as a force for social change, in order to produce socially engaged graduates.

5) Organising events that are as inclusive and environmentally responsible as possible, through the use of virtual communication to enable meeting participation, and by positively encouraging feedback from participants concerning felt inclusivity.
